Foreign affairs ministers of Moldova, Norway discuss developments in Transnistrian region

Chisinau, 20 May /MOLDPRES/- Deputy Prime Minister, Foreign Affairs and European Integration Minister Nicu Popescu has had a meeting with Foreign Affairs Minister of Norway Anniken Huitfeldt, in the context of participation in the Council of Europe’s ministerial meeting in Turin, the Foreign Affairs and European Integration Ministry’s (MAEIE) press service has reported.     

The two diplomacy heads exchanged opinions on the regional situation, the social and economic impact faced by Moldova in the wake of the war in Ukraine, including the management of the flow of Ukrainian refugees hosted in Moldova, as well as the developments in Moldova’s Transnistrian region.  

Minister Nicu Popescu thanked his Norwegian counterpart for the firm message of support by Norway for the independence and territorial integrity of Moldova and Ukraine, for the assistance provided in the management and overcoming of the Ukrainian refugees’ crisis, the financial contribution provided on the sidelines of the support conference for Moldova, as well as for intention to relocate a number of refugees who are presently in Moldova. In the context, the Moldovan minister expressed openness for cooperating with the Norwegian Refugee Council.   

„I discussed with my Norwegian counterpart also the need to support media projects in Moldova and, at the same time, I offered thanks for Norway’s financial contribution to the Moldova-Council of Europe Plan for 2021-2024, worth three million euros,’’ Deputy PM Nicu Popescu said.
