Chisinau, 30 May /MOLDPRES/ - An organ collected in Romania has been transplanted in Moldova for the first time ever. Two kidneys collected from a patient of Moldova reached patients from Romania.
According to the Health Ministry, a woman from Moldova, in an extremely serious condition, diagnosed with liver cirrhosis in terminal phase, benefited from a transplant of liver from a donor of Romania. This is the first time ever when an organ collected in Romania is transplanted in Moldova. The bringing to Moldova of the grafting was possible due to an agreement in the field of donation and transplant of organs, signed by representatives of the agencies of transplant from the two countries.
The liver was brought to Moldova by the Mobile Emergency Service for Resuscitation and Extrication (SMURD) from Romania. Subsequently, the organ was carried to the Timofei Mosneaga Republican Clinical Hospital, where it was soon transplanted to a patient. The surgical intervention was carried out successfully and the patient feels well.
At the same time, Moldova for the first time ever sent two kidneys to Romania, as no compatible people were identified in Moldova. The kidneys were collected from a 41-year-old man who was in cerebral death. The organs were transplanted by physicians of the Regional Kidney Transplant Centre of the Dr. C.I. Parhon from Iasi, Romania.
