Nordic-Baltic States reiterate support for Moldova's European aspirations

Chisinau, 31 May /MOLDPRES/ - Moldova’s European agenda, the regional and international developments triggered by the war in Ukraine, as well as the cabinet’s visions as to the attenuation of the impact of the world economic crisis on citizens’ well-being were the subjects considered at a today’s meeting between Prime Minister Natalia Gavrilita and the parliament speakers from those eight Nordic-Baltic States (NB8), on a joint official visit to Moldova, the government’s communication and protocol department has reported.
The PM informed about the significant progress made by the authorities in the speeding up of the European integration process. Hit by multiple crises, the cabinet continues its agenda of reforms, relying on the support of the European partners.
„We have proved to the European community the fact that we share the same democratic values, that we really want to be members of the European family. Our task is to open new opportunities to the citizen who gave us a vote of confidence. The war is at our border; we are hit by multiple crises, inflation and the light at the end of the tunnel where we are is the European Union. We count on the support of or partners on the way towards a prosperous future,’’ Natalia Gavrilita said.
In the context, the prime minister referred to the government’s challenges as to the management of the crisis of the Ukrainian refugees, who found shelter in Moldova. According to Natalia Gavrilita, another concern of the government is to identify ways of diversifying the sources of natural gas supply, strengthening of the energy sector and ensuring the food security. At the same time, the cabinet focuses its efforts on backing the economy, extending the sales market and construction of logistic chains.
The NB8 delegation members appreciated the progress made in the implementation of Moldova’s European agenda. They reiterated the support of the Nordic-Baltic States for the country’s European integration and the efforts made to get the status of candidate.
”Our visit is an expression of the support for Moldova’s European aspirations. We understand the circumstances in which you find yourselves and the multiple crises you are hit by. You have our openness for the extension of the cooperation agenda, including in the process of reforms’ implementation,’’ Speaker of Lithuania’s Seimas (parliament) Viktorija Čmilytė-Nilsen said.
At the same time, the parliament speakers praised Moldova’s efforts in the management of the refugees’ crisis and showed willingness to provide needed support in the process of integration of the Ukrainian citizens hosted in Moldova.
