Moldovan government approves draft law on ratification of memorandum of understanding with World Food Programme

Chisinau, 1 June /MOLDPRES/ - The government today approved a draft law on the ratification of the memorandum of understanding with the World Food Programme (WFP). The document provides for establishing the presence, activities and legal framework of work, in order to provide humanitarian assistance to refugees and the families which host them on the territory of Moldova and Ukraine, the Foreign Affairs and European Integration Ministry’s (MAEIE) press service has reported.
The memorandum was signed in Chisinau on 27 April 2022 by Labour and Social Protection Minister Marcel Spatari and Executive Director of the World Food Programme David Beasley and is temporarily enforced since the date of signing.
Till the date of the memorandum’s signing, the programme carried out the humanitarian activities in Moldova based on an instruction by the Commission for Emergency Situations.
„We will continue providing every support and the cooperation of Moldova’s authorities to all international organizations, which will provide support to our country for the management of the humanitarian crisis triggered by Russia’s war against Ukraine,’’ Foreign Affairs and European Integration Minister Nicu Popescu said.
