Moldovan parliament approves legislative measures for prevention, combating of misinformation

Chisinau, 2 June /MOLDPRES/ - The lawmakers, at a today’s plenary meeting, considered, in the second reading, a draft, the goal of which is to prevent and combat the misinformation and the spread of forged information in the media space. The document was backed with the votes of 54 MPs.
The draft law provides for the amendment of Moldova’s media audiovisual services code and is aimed at preventing and combating attempts of misinformation, which hit the national security. Thus, the media audiovisual services code was completed with the notion ‘’misinformation’’ and with the related sanctions, if the providers or distributors of media content infringe the legislation.
The Code was also completed with provisions, according to which the media services providers will not spread and the distributors of media services will not re-broadcast audiovisual TV and radio programmes with information, information and analytical, military and political content, which were produced in other countries than the European Union member states, United States, Canada and the states which ratified the European Convention on Transfrontier Television, except for the movies and entertainment programmes which do not have militaristic content.
At the same time, the media services providers will not spread and the media services distributors will not re-broadcast audiovisual programmes which, no matter their origin, justify the aggression wars, deny the war crimes and the crimes against the mankind or incite to hatred.
