Several forensic investigation equipment donated to IGP

Chisinau, August 15 /MOLDPRES/- More forensic investigation equipment was sent today to the Technical-Criminal and Judicial Expertise Center within the General Police Inspectorate (IGP). The devices were procured by the US Government, with the support of UNDP Moldova.
The donation includes equipment for forensic laboratories that examine unknown substances in infrared rays and a high-performance computer for examining mobile phones.
During the event Secretary General of the Ministry of Internal Affairs Serghei Diaconu said that the donation will allow for faster examination of the evidence and aims to strengthen the center's capabilities. "It is important that any crime committed is thoroughly investigated and the guilty persons are identified and brought to justice. It is very good when the evidence is documented and cannot be disputed. Thanks to this donation, law enforcement officers will be able to do their duty at the highest level. We thank the partners for their support", he said.
Present at the handover ceremony, representative of the US Embassy in Chisinau Brett Rose appreciated the good collaboration with partners from the Republic of Moldova. "We are glad that we were able to carry out this important project, which will allow the improvement of expertise. Thus, police officers will be able to carry out analyzes and examinations with the use of modern technology", said Brett Rose.
Program specialist from UNDP Moldova Olesea Perean emphasized that building the rule of law is done not only by aligning legal norms, but also by strengthening the technical-material base. "This is necessary to carry out quality investigations, so that in the criminal process the rights and freedoms of the parties involved are ensured. We are ready to support other initiatives to ensure the correctness of the investigation processes", said Olesea Perean.
The donation was made within the project Support for the reform of Justice in the legal bodies of the Republic of Moldova and has a value of 165 thousand dollars.
