Tomb of Macri-Donici families to be restored with European Union support

Chisinau, August 16 /MOLDPRES/- Conservation and restoration works at the tomb of the Macri-Donici families in the village of Dubăsarii Vechi, Criuleni district, are under development, the United Nations Development Program (UNDP) announced today.
The restoration was launched thanks to the European Union Confidence-Building Measures program (EU CBM), implemented by UNDP. Tomb is one of the 10 cultural-historical sites on both banks of the Dniester, selected for restoration and conservation, within the cultural heritage component of the EU CBM program.
The Macri-Donici tomb may be of interest to those who either want to discover the works of the architect Bernardazzi, or want to learn more about the life of the astronomer Nicolae Donici. In Old Dubăsari there are two historical monuments entered in the state register: the church and the vault.
He was a member of the International Union for the Study of the Sun from 1907 on the part of Russia, the International Astronomical Union (from 1922), the astronomical societies of Russia (until 1917), Germany and France.
He was a member of the Romanian astronomical committee, an honorary member of the Romanian Academy and a doctor honoris causa of the University of Coimbra, Portugal, of which he was a member since 1912. Author of at least 77 scientific publications written almost all in French, but he also has few articles in Romanian, Russian and German.
