Chisinau, August 20 /MOLDPRES/- President of the Republic of Moldova Maia Sandu met yesterday with diaspora citizens who came home on the occasion of the 2022 Diaspora Days, the presidential press service has reported.
"Today I warmly greeted our fellow citizens who are participating in Diaspora Days 2022. Although they are settled with living abroad, they do not forget about Moldova and are actively involved in its development. I thanked them for supporting the changes at home, for supporting the European integration process and for their solidarity with those who need help", the president said.
In this context, Maia Sandu sai that since the beginning of the war in Ukraine, thousands of Moldovan citizens have sent aid to Ukrainian refugees and that, for many years, the diaspora has been supporting, through various programs, people from vulnerable categories in the country.
"In the last year, the Government signed several bilateral agreements regarding ensuring social security, avoiding double taxation, recognizing diplomas or facilitating obtaining a driving license. We are negotiating similar agreements with other states as well. We have reduced consular fees for services provided outside the country and are working on their digitization. And those who want to return home will be able to repatriate their goods tax-free, according to the repatriation law, recently voted by the Parliament", said the head of State.
At the end of the discussion, she told everyone present that they are expected and welcome at home. "We are waiting for them to come back to be with their loved ones. Moldova needs everyone's help, talent, vision and experience - both from home and abroad. It is important to keep our trust in each other, to continue to be in solidarity and to work together, with patience and perseverance, to transform our country into a welcoming home for its people", said Maia Sandu.
