Chisinau, August 24 /MOLDPRES/- The United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA) Moldova published yesterday a list of ten districts in the Republic of Moldova with the largest population decrease in the last eight years.
"Due to external migration, the Republic of Moldova recorded a decrease in population in most districts, according to data recently published by the National Bureau of Statistics. Other causes include internal migration, low birth rates and high mortality. The districts that recorded the biggest population declines are Cimișlia, Cantemir, Călărași, Telenești, Hâncești, Briceni, Nisporeni, etc., the organization indicates.
According to UNFPA, through the Demographic Resilience Program, we work together with the Ministry of Labor and Social Protection, and these data are used to develop demographic, social, economic and environmental policies and improve the quality of life of each citizen.
The National Bureau of Statistics carried out the population calculation at the district level with the support of UNFPA Moldova and Swiss Cooperation in Chisinau.
