Chisinau, 14 September /MOLDPRES/ - The Justice Ministry today informed that it had given the final touches to the draft law on the Supreme Court of Justice (CSJ) (CSJ reform) and would repeatedly send it to the Venice Commission for expert examination till the end of this week.
According to the quoted source, the principal provisions of the draft are: decrease in the number of CSJ judges from 33 to 20; change of CSJ’s composition; regulation of exigent criteria for holding the position of CSJ judge; establishment of the needed working experience for holding the office of CSJ judge; creation of the mechanism of evaluation by the commission for the evaluation of the ethical and financial integrity of the present CSJ judges and of the candidates for the position of CSJ judge; establishment of new and compulsory conditions for the people willing to work as CSJ judge after the latter’s reformation and namely to be positively evaluated by the evaluation commission; creation of the mechanism of contesting the results of the evaluation; modification of the CSJ’s competences.
The ministry reiterates that, given that the revision of CSJ’s competences implies the making of amendments to the procedural codes, the working group set up on the institution’s platform already works on a draft law on the amendment of the related normative framework, which will enter into force concomitantly with the draft of the new law on CSJ.
