World Rabies Day marked in Moldova

Chisinau, 28 Sep. /MOLDPRES/- Moldova today marks World Rabies Day. This year’s theme - Rabies: One Health, Zero Deaths.
According to the National Agency for Public Health, the action is meant for the elimination of rabies in both people and animals in support of the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goal: zero deaths by 2030. This event is supported by international organizations, including the World Health Organization, the World Organization for Animal Health, the UN Food and Agriculture Organization and the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.
During the last two years, no cases of human rabies were recorded in the Republic of Moldova, and the number of animals detected with rabies decreased significantly (by 4 times). The circulation of the rabies virus in the domestic animal population has also decreased.
According to statistics, 4,790 people attacked by different categories of animals were registered in the territorial medical and sanitary institutions in 2021, which practically corresponds to the respective indicator for the past years.
