Physician detained for establishing of false diagnoses to patients in Moldova

Chisinau, 12 October /MOLDPRES/ - The head of the Family Physicians’ Section at the medical institution of public health, health centre Drochia is prosecuted under the Criminal Code for passive corruption, after he was documented by officers of the National Anticorruption Centre (CNA) and prosecutors of the North office of the Anticorruption Prosecutor’s Office (PA). The physician would have claimed and received money, in order to establish false diagnoses to patients.
According to CNA, starting from June 2022, the head of this section would have issued fictitious certificates to people, where he would indicated them the need of urgent treatment outside Moldova. The deeds described were committed on the period when the Public Services Agency announced the issuance of passports only in emergency cases, including in cases of medical emergency and the need of treatments abroad. Thus, more people processed passports urgently, justifying the request through medical conclusions, prescribed by the suspect and they would have paid between 100 and 200 euros for one certificate.
Today, CNA officers made a raid at the home and office of the physician. Law-enforcers raised on the spot personal health records, registers, certificates and phones. Presently, they investigate all circumstances of the cause, in order to establish also other persons involved.
