Electoral Education subject to be taught in schools next year

Chisinau, Oct. 19 /MOLDPRES/- From the 2023-2024 academic year, pupils of the 9th and 10th grades will be able to obtain basic knowledge in the electoral field within the optional subject Electoral Education.

"What does multipartyism mean, how have elections and electoral rights evolved, what is an electoral campaign, who are the electoral competitors, how do you vote, what does election fraud, manipulation and misinformation mean? Studying the subject will contribute to the formation and consolidation of the electoral culture by empowering future voters to exercise and defend their democratic rights and responsibilities, to recognize, prevent and counter disinformation, corruption and electoral fraud", according to the US Agency for International Development (USAID).

The curriculum was set up under the UNDP Moldova project Enhancing democracy in Moldova through inclusive and transparent elections. It is implemented with the financial support of the American people offered through USAID and that of the British Embassy in Chisinau made available through the Good Governance Fund.
