Nuclear or radiological activities to be regulated under law in Moldova

Chisinau, 20 October /MOLDPRES/ - The nuclear or radiological activities which cause expositions to ionizing radiation of staff or residents will be regulated under law. The parliament approved a draft law on the basic requirements in the radiological security in the second reading today.
According to the authors, the document will contribute to reducing the expositions, diminishing the risk of the environment’s radioactive contamination, as well as to the enhancement of the transparency in the decision-making process related to the regulation of the radiological security.
So far, there has been no normative act in force which would provide for general and specific requirements as to the ensuring of the radiological security and protection, in the conditions of the impact of the sources of ionizing radiation used in industry, researches, state’s security, science, radiological incidents or accidents or the ones natural origin.
The draft law on the basic requirements in the radiological security was voted by 72 lawmakers and will enter into force in six months after its publication in the Official Journal (Monitorul Oficial).
