Chisinau, 21 October /MOLDPRES/ - Rescuers carry out a campaign of informing citizens about the exploring of heating stoves on the cold period of the year.

Contacted by MOLDPRES, the press officer of the General Inspectorate for Emergency Situations (IGSU), Liliana Puscasu, said that, before the starting of the heating season, heating stoves must be cleaned and checked for not having fissures, which can trigger intoxications with carbon monoxide.

„Rescuers recommend that citizens do not light fire with easily flammable liquids. At the same time, they are urged not to place nearby heating stoves combustible objects (furniture objects) and not dry clothes on them. During the burning, the fire needs to be supervised. Heating stoves should be overburdened, in order to avoid fires or explosions. The fire must be extinguished for the night. We also recommend that people help elderly persons and supervise children, in order to avoid risk situations,’’ Liliana Puscasu said.

Also, IGSU urges people to use ventilation channels and air the room, in order to avoid intoxications with carbon monoxide. ‘’In the wake of intoxication, dizziness or vomiting can appear and death may come about in serious cases. If first symptoms appear, it is recommended that the person is taken out of the room and the latter should be aired. Also, citizens are urged to call for medical aid,’’ Liliana Puscasu stressed.

According to IGSU, since early 2022, 18 people have suffered in the wake of intoxications with carbon monoxide, which occurred because of exploring heating sources. Six of these persons died in the wake of complications.
