Priorities of UN Children's Fund for Moldova discussed at government

Chisinau, 21 October /MOLDPRES/ -The United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF) will further support the cabinet’s efforts in the field of protection of the rights of the child and improving their access to quality services in education, health and social assistance. Government’s Secretary General Dumitru Udrea and UNCEF Country Representative in Moldova Maha Damaj discussed social and education projects carried out in Moldova at present, as well as the goals set by UNICEF, within the new Country Programme for 2023-2027, the government’s communication and protocol department has reported.  

The government’s secretary general appreciated the support provided by UNICEF during the COVID-19 pandemic, as well as in the process of management of the crisis of refugees from Ukraine. Dumitru Udrea voiced hope that the maintaining of an active dialogue would contribute, in continuation, to the promotion of efficient policies and programmes. ‘’I am happy that we have such a partner, with which we can find the best solutions to the problems specific to the protection of child. I am sure that, in the long run, all goals from this sector will be achieved through our joint involvement,’’ Dumitru Udrea said.  

For her part, Maha Damaj referred to the priority actions for the next period, aimed at strengthening the system of social protection of the child in Moldova, in order to promptly and efficiently meet the needs of each child. ‘’In all we do, our attention is always focused on the needs of children. It is important that we mobilize the resources, synchronize the objectives and make, in continuation, a team to generate results on all segments set,’’ the UNICEF country representative said.

In this respect, Maha Damaj stressed that UNICEF had contributed to the working out of the Education-2030 Strategy, along with the Education and Research Ministry, committing to ensure, according to the Sustainable Development Goals, a quality, inclusive and fair education. Among the priorities, there are the efficient implementation of digital technologies, improving the ways of teaching, as well as ensuring of the education and social inclusion of children with disabilities. At the same time, a key priority remains the creation of hygienic and sanitary conditions at the headquarters of schools: supply of water and sewerage networks, with the inadequate sanitation and hygiene being an environment with high risk for the health of pupils and teachers.     

Another priority deals with the consolidation of Moldova’s medical system, campaigns of promotion of the need to administer vaccines and continuing the promotion of the immunization’s role.
