Moldovan PM participates in national conference of women entrepreneurs

Chisinau, 21 October /MOLDPRES/ - The challenges faced by women in business, possibilities of backing the companied led by women, as well as solutions to overcome the economic crisis faced by business’ representatives today were discussed at the first national conference of women entrepreneurs. Attending the event, organized by the Association of Women Entrepreneurs from Moldova (AFAM), were Prime Minister Natalia Gavrilita, Head of the EU Delegation in Moldova Jānis Mažeiks, diplomats and representatives of the business environment, the government’s communication and protocol department has reported.   

During the panel discussion, Natalia Gavrilita referred to the important role of the woman in politics, business environment and social life of Moldova. 

„Women can do everything: can do successful business, can be good leaders, can participate in the public life and can reach the most important state offices, just as this happens in Moldova. Women have made progress in the political life of the country; we have 40 per cent women in parliament, a woman at the head of the Presidency and another one leading the government. We have more women among advisers and leaders locally. We must replicate this success in the business environment as well, as studies show that women in leadership contribute to the decrease in the level of corruption and the development of a more prosperous, sound and happy society,’’ the prime minister said.      

Natalia Gavrilita also touched upon the measures undertaken by the cabinet to stimulate women’s involvement in the business environment, as well as for the reintegration of young mothers in labour.  

„In the last year, we have implemented more policies, in order to do this way easier. First of all, the possibility to take child-care leave became more flexible; we adopted rules which stimulate mothers to return to work earlier, through increasing the allocation for taking care of the child in the first year. We also made more flexible the leave which fathers can take, as the family is eventually a team; we adopted certain regulations, so that employers can open crèches,’’ the PM also said.     

Natalia Gavrilita also said that she would like a better involvement of women in the board of small- and medium-sized enterprises, taking into account that their figure decreased considerably, especially following the pandemic crisis. The social norms and the society’s attitude towards the woman’s role ''at home'' are among the principal challenges.
