Moldovan parliament speaker gives speech at first parliamentary summit International Crimea Platform

Chisinau, 25 October /MOLDPRES/ - Parliament Speaker Igor Grosu today gave a speech at the first parliamentary summit, International Crimea Platform, held in Zagreb and organized by Ukraine and Croatia.    

In his speech, the Moldovan speaker repeatedly condemned Russia’s aggression in Ukraine and expressed the firm support for the sovereignty and territorial integrity of Ukraine.

“We are on the 244th day of war; there are eight months of continuous bombardments against the Ukrainian cities and villages, during which thousands of innocent people have died and millions of Ukrainians were forced to leave their dwellings. From the very first days of the invasion, Moldova joined the international community in condemning Russia’s war against Ukraine and asked for the immediate ceasing of the aggression. This war is a non-provoked attack against our neighbor and friend, Ukraine. Ukraine is presently in the van of the free world, heroically fighting for the security of the entire Europe and Moldova. Ukraine needs our support,’’ Grosu said.        

The Moldovan parliament speaker noted that this war had disturbed also the logistic chains in the entire region; yet, in a record time, the movement was re-started on the railway segment Berezino-Basarabeasca, through which the connection with ports from Romania is ensured.  

“We have condemned and condemn the annexation of Crimea, as well as the recent so-called referendums in the regions of Kherson, Zaporizhzhia, Donetsk and Lukhansk of Ukraine. Moldova does not recognize the attempt of illegal annexation of Ukrainian territories by Russia. Our country reaffirms the firm support for the independence, sovereignty and territorial integrity of Ukraine, within the internationally recognized borders. From this rostrum, I would like to express the greatest admiration for all Ukrainians for their courage, resistance and strength to continue this fight for survival, justice and freedom,’’ Grosu added.         

Over 50 parliament speakers and deputy speakers, as well as presidents and deputy presidents of parliamentary assemblies of international institutions participated in the today’s meeting in Zagreb. The meeting is the biggest international event at the parliamentary level ever organized in Croatia.
