Chisinau, Nov. 4 /MOLDPRES/- Today, President Maia Sandu participated in the International Conference - Moldova turns white: Solutions to encourage the transition to legal work, organized by the Ministry of Labor and Social Protection in partnership with civil society. Maia Sandu spoke about how people are affected, but also the economy, because of informal work, which is a widespread phenomenon in our country, the presidential press service has reported.
"When I go to the localities in the country, I meet many people who complain that they have low pensions. Pensions are low because the economy is still weak, but also because many accept to be employed illegally or receive pocket wages. It is more difficult to change things for the elderly who, for years in a row, have not contributed to the Social Insurance Fund. However, we can change the situation of the almost 200 thousand people who today work informally in agriculture, construction, commerce or other fields", said Maia Sandu.
The head of state said that illegal work also means reduced access to medical assistance, limiting the right to child care leave, precarious conditions at work. Also, undeclared work creates unfair competition between firms and leads to lost revenue for the state.
"The costs of undeclared work are high for everyone and we all need to fight this phenomenon. We know that economic agents face multiple crises and for some today the main problem is survival. The government understands this and is ready to help you make the transition to legal work," Maia Sandu said.
