Chisinau, Nov. 8 /MOLDPRES/- Gagauzia residents celebrate Kasîm today, traditionally marked on the day when Orthodox Christians of the Old Rite celebrate the Holy Great Martyr Dumitru.
In the Gagauz autonomy, the popular holiday Kasîm means the end of the harvest and the preparation for winter.
According to Kasîm, divine services and festive meals, artistic and sports activities are organized in every locality in the region, but the richest agenda is held by the authorities of the Ceadâr-Lunga municipality. Namely here, the exhibition-fair of animal breeders in the area takes place.
According to a decision of the People's Assembly of Gagauzia, November 8 is declared a day off in autonomy.
Kasîm, Hederlez, Pipiruda etc. holidays are included in a project to safeguard the Gagauz language and cultural traditions in the Republic of Moldova, initiated by the Ministry of Education and Research with the support of the US Embassy in Chisinau.
