Chisinau, Nov. 10 /MOLDPRES/- The National Medical Insurance Company (CNAM) said it has allocated 469 thousand lei (about 24 thousand euros) from the prophylaxis measures fund for the procurement of the second batch of five thousand doses of rabies vaccine, produced in India. It was stored at the national vaccine warehouse of the National Agency for Public Health.
According to CNAM, the rabies vaccine is used before and after exposure to the rabies virus, as primary immunization. Pre-exposure (prophylactic) vaccination is recommended for people at high risk of contamination with this virus. At the same time, post-exposure vaccination is indicated after being bitten by an animal that may be a carrier of rabies and when certain people are suspected of exposure to rabies.
The first batch of seven thousand doses of rabies vaccine was purchased this May and cost 656.6 thousand lei, money also allocated by CNAM.
