Law enforcers from Moldova, Ukraine conduct searches in case on organized crime

Chisinau, Dec. 1 /MOLDPRES/- Law enforcement officers from Moldova and Ukraine are conducting searches today in a case on activity of a criminal organization, with criminal groups active in the Transnistrian region.
According to the General Inspectorate of Police, the raids are carried out on five persons aged between 30 and 55 in Cahul and Chisinau. They are suspected of having relations with criminal groups in the Transnistrian region, as well as with their leader in Ukraine. At the same time, searches are being carried out on nine people from Odesa region, Ukraine.
The case was initiated in 2016. The 56-year-old Ukrainian citizen created a criminal ring with inter-regional ties, which operated in Odesa and allegedly had criminal links with the underworld on the left side of the Dniester. The crimes concerned the organization of murder, money extortion, drug sales, arms and ammunition smuggling, raider attacks, torture and kidnapping of business people etc.
As a result of the searches, several bodies of crime were seized such as: goods, debt vouchers, pre-delivery stamps, accounting records, contracts for joint economic activities, illegally possessed weapons and ammunition. The actions were carried out as a result of the exchange of information through EUROPOL with the Ukrainian authorities.
