Term of work Pre-vetting Commission extended in Moldova

Chisinau, 1 December /MOLDPRES/ - The Pre-vetting Commission will work till 30 June 2023. The parliament today voted, in the first reading, amendments to the law on measures related to the selection of the candidates for the office of member in the bodies of self-management of the judges and prosecutors.
Under the document, the term of work of the Commission will be extended by six months. The decision was taken following a request made by the Pre-vetting Commission to the parliament’s juridical commission for appointments and immunities.
According to the legislation, the Commission was to assess, till 31 December, the integrity of the candidates for the vacant positions from the Superior Council of Magistracy (CSM), the college for the selection and career of judges, college for assessing the judges’ performances, the disciplinary college of judges, Superior Council of Prosecutors (CSP), college for the selection and career of prosecutors, college of assessing the performances of prosecutors and the college of discipline and ethics subordinated to CSP.
Presently, the commission members are in process of evaluation of the candidates for the vacant offices from CSM. Thus, the term was extended, in order to manage the evaluation of all candidates to the vacant offices from the other institutions, as well as of the judges of the Supreme Court of Justice.
The document’s authors also propose legislative amendments which regard the process of work of the evaluation commission: aspects concerning the procedure terms, way of work with personal data, as well as the way of publication of the Commission’s decisions and of video recordings and hearings.
The draft law was backed with the votes of 52 MPs.
