Moldova to participate in EU programme for environment and climate action

Chisinau, 15 December /MOLDPRES/ - Moldova will conclude an Association Agreement with the European Union on the country’s participation in the Programme for Environment and Climate Action (LIFE). The parliament voted for the agreement’s ratification today.

Under the document, the LIFE programme has the goal to contribute to the transition to a sustainable and efficient economy, based on renewable sources of energy, as well as for the protection and improvement of the environment’s quality.

With its participation in the LIFE programme, Moldova will be able to benefit from the financing of more projects, which regard the biodiversity, circular economy, transition to the clean energy, as well as the adaptation to climate. The proposals of projects will be able to be submitted by public entities, private enterprises, NGOs or civil society organizations.

The LIFE programme is the only programme of the European Union dedicated to the environment. Since 1992, 5,600 projects have been co-financed through this programme and a budget of 5.43 billion euros was planned for 2021-2027.

Sixty two lawmakers voted the draft law in two readings.
