Best pupils, teachers of Moldova awarded prizes for outstanding results at regional, international competitions

Chisinau, 20 December /MOLDPRES/ - Prime Minister Natalia Gavrilita, along with Education and Research Minister Anatolie Topala, today awarded prizes to 34 pupils, who during 2022 had got outstanding results at 15 regional and international competitions and Olympiads. Also, 27 teachers who trained the Olympic team received prizes. The pupils and teachers were awarded diplomas of excellence and money prizes worth 710,000 lei in all, the government’s communication and protocol department has reported.   

The PM noted that, through their success, the participants in the competitions contributed to the promotion of Moldova’s image in the world, being examples of perseverance and ambition for all young people from the country. At the same time, the prime minister emphasized that, behind the medals and prizes, there was a huge effort: hours of work spend in education halls, in laboratories, in front of the computer or at the library.    

„Your dedication, the one of the young people whom we give prizes today, is doubled also by the effort of the parents who back you and who experience, by your side, the emotions of the participation in contests. At the same time, these performances would not have been possible without the involvement of exceptional teachers. I express gratitude for the work you carry out and I want to assure you that you will enjoy the support needed, in order to continue to train new generations of republican winners in Olympiads, national and international,’’ Natalia Gavrilita said.     

In the context, the prime minister referred to the cabinet’s efforts for the development of an attractive education system. This year, an ambitious reform in the higher education sector was launched, so that the universities become more competitive, stronger and are connected to the most recent scientific developments.    

Nevertheless, Natalia Gavrilita noted that each pupil should decide on where he/she will continue the education and will develop the potential, in Moldova or abroad.  

„No matter where you choose to study and then to work, do not break the relation with your country, with the teachers, with the parents. And if you have possibility, immediately after graduation or a bit later, return home, to Moldova, in order to contribute to its development,’’ the PM said.   

This year, the national Olympic teams in mathematics, informatics, chemistry, biology, physics, sciences and engineering managed to get 51 prizes, of which eight silver medals, 31 bronze medals, 10 mentions of honour, one third position and a special prize.
