Chisinau, 28 December /MOLDPRES/ - The Pre-Hospital Emergency Medical Assistance Service today informed that it recorded a considerable increase in the number of calls for emergency medical assistance in the last time. About 18,000 calls were registered on 19-25 December.
According to the National Pre-Hospital Emergency Medical Assistance Service (CNAMUP), most often, ambulance was called for patients with respiratory diseases. The increase in the number of calls took place at the expense of patients with respiratory infections, who represented 33 per cent of all calls served on the concerned period.
According to CNAMUP, the overload of the ambulance service creates an unjustified waiting list. The serving of non-emergency patients can trigger concomitantly situations when patients with major medical and surgical emergencies in critical conditions (sudden cardiac arrest, acute coronary syndrome, cerebral vascular accident, shock state, severe injury) cannot be served quickly by emergency teams.
Thus, CNAMUP urges citizens to call ambulance only in cases of imminent danger for life.
