First death caused by influenza registered in Moldova

Chisinau, 10 January /MOLDPRES/ - The first case of death caused by complications of the influenza from the 2022-2023 season was recorded on the period 2-8 January. It is about a young 22-year-old man.

According to the Health Ministry, in the first week of this year, a decrease in the number of cases of acute viral respiratory infections was registered, while the one of the influenza cases is maintained at a relatively constant level. A diminution in the number of cases is ascertained in the Chisinau municipality, where most infection cases were reported.

According to the quoted source, 12,579 cases of acute infections of the upper respiratory ways (IARCS), 488 acute severe respiratory infections (SARI) and 210 cases of seasonal flu were recorded last week.

Also, medical institutions report a decrease in the number of hospitalizations, with 152 people sick with influenza hospitalized on the aforementioned period and 318 persons – with acute infections of the upper respiratory ways. Most hospitalizations because of acute respiratory infections and flu are among children.

The Health Ministry said 932 cases of influenza, 136,026 ones of IARCS and 5,906 cases of SARI had been confirmed in this season.
