Chisinau city hall to assess areas with increased risk of road accidents

Chisinau, 12 Jan. /MOLDPRES/- Chisinau city hall will assess the areas with increased risk of accidents and will take additional measures to reduce the number of pedestrian collisions.
According to the Chisinau city hall, speed limiters, elevated pedestrian crossings and islands of refuge are to be set up. At the same time, pedestrian crossings are to be illuminated and traffic lights placed in their areas. The measures aim to increase the safety of road users. They will be consulted with police representatives.
According to the General Police Inspectorate, on January 1-11, there were 25 road accidents involving pedestrians, as a result of which three people died and 23 were injured. Out of the total number of road accidents, 15 occurred on the pedestrian crossing.
Law enforcement officers urge road users to exercise caution when crossing public roads - pedestrians to be safe when crossing pedestrian crossings, and drivers to comply with road signs and reduce speed around them, including adapting it to weather conditions.
People who cross the street irregularly risk a penalty of 300 to 450 lei, and drivers who do not give way to pedestrians are penalized from 900 to 1500 lei (about 75 euros) with the application of four penalty points.
