Drug price approval mechanism to be improved

Chisinau, 13 Jan. /MOLDPRES/- The promulgation decree and the Law amending Article 61 of Law No1409/1997 on medicines were published today in the Official Journal and entered into force.

The document sees modification of the mechanism for approval and registration of producer prices for medicines, aiming at facilitating the population's access to quality medicinal products and increasing the attractiveness of the pharmaceutical market of the Republic of Moldova for domestic and foreign economic operators.

Thus, the amendments to the Medicines Law provide for direct negotiation with the manufacturer or the holder of the medicine's registration certificate or its official representative, excluding the lowest price from the calculation.

The Medicines and Medical Devices Agency will be responsible for the creation and administration of the national price catalogue.

According to the data of the Ministry of Health, currently the State Nomenclature of Medicines includes about 4,000 products, compared to previous years when there were around 8,000 medicines.
