Chisinau, 26 Jan. /MOLDPRES/- The first two Moldovan-Romanian funding applications that will contribute to the development of transport infrastructure connectivity on both the Romanian and Moldovan sides were submitted within the Connecting Europe Facility #CEF program.
According to the Ministry of Infrastructure and Road Infrastructure (MIDR), the funding is intended for the development of the cross-border infrastructure Ungheni (RO) - Ungheni (MD) and Albita (RO) - Leușeni (MD).
As regards the first Ungheni - Ungheni project, on the Romanian side, the connection with the existing road infrastructure in Romania will be developed by upgrading DJ249A to a national road profile, which will connect with the new bridge over the Prut. This infrastructure will also function after connecting the Ungheni bridge with the A8 highway, as a road junction with the nearby national road. At the same time, the access infrastructure between the new Ungheni bridge and the existing road network will be built in the Republic of Moldova.
The total value of the project is 66.3 million euros, of which the contribution of the European Union is 33.1 million euros.
The second project concerns the border crossing point Leușeni - Albita, which will be equipped with new equipment. At the same time, on the Romanian side, the flow of goods entering the country will be reorganized. Romanian Ministry of Transport is preparing the technical documentation for a new bridge over the Prut instead of the existing one, with two lanes in each direction, which will also be proposed for financing from the CEF program. The total value of the project is 19.6 million euros.
