Chisinau, 27 January /MOLDPRES/ - President Maia Sandu has participated in an event organized today in the memory of those six million victims of the Holocaust – a tragedy not only of a peculiar nation, but of the entire mankind. More than 300,000 Jews, Romanies and people of other groups died in our region alone, the presidential press service has reported.
„Unfortunately, the lesson of the Holocaust has not been learned as yet. At present too, just as 80 years ago, there are people who deny the realities. People who, in a queer and false instinct of self-preservation, because of a kind of social deafness, prefer to believe that nothing occurred at that time, that nothing happens now,’’ President Maia Sandu said.
The head of state noted that a joint vote against the evil was needed at present more than ever. ‘’We must say a resolute NO to the extremism, misinformation, instigation to hatred. We join the global campaign, #WeRemember, on combating the anti-Semitism, intolerance and xenophobia, in order not to let the hatred take root in Moldova. The lessons of the past must be learned. Eternal memory to the victims of the Holocaust and peace to us, everybody!’’ the Moldovan president added.
