Chisinau, 27 January /MOLDPRES/ - The parliament has aligned with the WeRemember Campaign, launched in the context of the International Holocaust Remembrance Week. The message, WeRemember, was screened on the parliament building, at an initiative by the Jewish Community from Moldova.
This year, the title of the WeRemember campaign is, Learn from the past, protect the future. The action’s goal is to promote the memory of the Holocaust and the culture of tolerance, in order to combat the racism, anti-Semitism, xenophobia, and other forms of intolerance.
Moldova’s parliament condemned the Holocaust in July 2014, by adopting a political declaration on the acceptance of the Report of the International Commission for Studying the Holocaust, chaired by Elie Wiesel. The political declaration also condemns any attempt of ignoring or denial of the Holocaust and pays homage to its victims and survivors.
The International Holocaust Remembrance Day is annually marked on 27 January. This was decided through the Resolution of the United Nations General Assembly, adopted in 2005. In Moldova, the International Holocaust Remembrance Day has been annually marked since 2015, under a decision approved by the parliament.
