Truck driver sentenced to five years in prison for smuggling

Chisinau, 31 Jan. /MOLDPRES/- Truck driver, who in November 2021 tried to smuggle hookahs, drugs and anabolics worth over 1.2 million lei (about 58 thousand euros) out of the country, was sentenced to five years in prison.

According to PCCOCS, the state prosecutors will challenge the decision of the magistrates and the refusal of the Hâncești Court to confiscate the value of over 1.1 million lei of the trailer and semi-trailer used to commit the crime.

The defendant cooperated with the authorities and said that he was going to sell the drugs in Romania, where he intended to load his truck with furniture to transport to Italy.

He is 37 years old, born in Anenii Noi and an employee of a transport company in Romania.
