Chisinau, 6 February /MOLDPRES/ - The parliament this month will carry out a reading promotion campaign. The action will take place in the context of the National Reading Day, marked on 14 February.
According to the parliament’s communications and public relations department, a string of activities for the promotion of books and reading are planned, with the participation of MPs, the institution’s civil servants and visitors.
Thus, in February, the parliament’s library will open its doors for the institution’s visitors. The first guest is MP Angela Munteanu-Pojoga, the author of the initiative to establish the National Reading Day.
„A society with a high level of intellectual health is one where books have an honorary place. In a country where less than ten per cent of the citizens buy a book per year, the school’s role becomes essential in cultivating the reading, as care meant to save us from a superficial universe, an universe where we make a click without deciding,’’ Munteanu-Pojoga said. The MP urges teachers to organize diverse activities for the promotion and encouraging of reading, in which children and young people are to take part.
At the same time, starting from 14 February, the parliament’s museum will host a topic-related exhibition of books and monographs, signed by lawmakers, former MPs, civil servants of the parliament. Also, on the National Reading Day, a public discussion titled, How can we make Moldova read, will be organized, during which MPs and culture people will discuss ways of promoting reading in Moldova.
The National Reading Day is officially marked in Moldova in 2023 for the first time ever. On 31 March 2022, the parliament unanimously adopted a draft decision, under which the National Reading Day is established on 14 February – the birthday of the great departed poet, Grigore Vieru.
