Moldovan speaker meets Swedish ministers, senior officials

Chisinau, 9 Feb. /MOLDPRES/- On an official visit to Sweden, Speaker Igor Grosu met with several ministers. Among the issues were the country's European integration, security in the region, as well as opportunities for cooperation between Moldova and Sweden, the parliament's communication and public relations department has reported.
The speaker had a meeting with Minister for EU Affairs Jessika Roswall and State Secretary for Foreign Affairs Jan Knutsson. They discussed the European integration process. Swedish officials assured that Moldova is among the priority states on the agenda of the Swedish presidency of the Council of the European Union, and they expressed support for the efforts of the Chisinau authorities aimed at reforming the key- sectors and the modernization of the country.
The visit's agenda also included a meeting with Swedish Minister for Defence Pål Jonson. The discussion focused on security in the region and the need to reform the defense sector. "Our priority is to ensure peace in the country and in the region," he said.
Grosu also met with State Secretary to the Ministry for International Development Cooperation and Foreign Trade Diana Janse, and Director-General of the Swedish National Board of Trade Anders Ahnlid. Officials agreed to boost efforts for commercial exchange between our countries, especially in areas such as IT, agriculture, investment in renewables. Also, the subject of good practices in the management of localities and communities was discussed with President of the Stockholm City Council Olle Burell.
The speaker also met with Swedish International Development Cooperation Agency's (Sida) head of department for Europe and Latin America Christina Danielsson. Given that the Moldovan-Swedish cooperation has lasted for over 20 years, the following programs of the Moldovan Agency were discussed, which aim to promote human rights, gender equality and inclusive education.
On February 6-9, Grosu was on an official visit to the Kingdom of Sweden. He held meetings with his Swedish counterpart and the prime minister.
