Moldovan national food safety agency warns about compulsory requirements of labeling alcoholic beverages

Chisinau, 20 February /MOLDPRES/ - The National Food Safety Agency (ANSA) today informed about requirements of labeling of alcoholic beverages and vine and wine products (all categories of vines, including sparking ones, flavoured vine and wine products, products based on wine).   

„The alcoholic production and the vine and wine products bottled and put into circulation must be labeled. The following compulsory indications are used at the labeling: name or trademark according to which the product is sold; name of the protected geographical indication or the protected origin name; the mentions ‘’protected origin name’’ or ‘’protected geographical indication;’’ alcoholic concentration; category of product depending on mass concentration of sugars; nominal volume of product, product’s origin country,’’ ANSA said.     

At the same time, the ‘’validity term’’ is compulsory to be showed on the label of the alcoholic production, the alcoholic concentration of which is up to 10 per cent, among which the wine beverages, the alcoholic ones, including bier. The notion of ‘’alcoholic production’’ is defined, under the legislation, as ‘’alcoholic production – food production meant for human consumption, with an alcoholic concentration higher than 1.2 per cent in volume.’’ Also, as for the vine and wine products, as well as the alcoholic production, the compulsoriness to show the ‘’guarantee term’’ on the label or the packing sold is not regulated.        

„All alcoholic production and vine and wine products commercialized at retail trade units must be accompanied by certificates of conformity issued by an accredited certification body and, as case may be, by quality certificates issued by the producer and, at the request of consumers, they must be present with the issuance of a copy, if needed. The consumers and traders should know that the label of the alcoholic production will contain also the mentions of health or their icons, compulsory starting from 20 April 2023,’’ the National Food Safety Agency added.
