Chisinau, February 21 /MOLDPRES/- The number of respiratory infections increased in the capital by 23%. The head of the General Directorate of Medical and Social Assistance, Boris Gîlca, made the statement at the operational meeting of the municipal services.
According to Gîlcă, there is an increase in the number of COVID-19 cases, which recorded a double increase compared to the previous week. "The epidemiological situation is worrying. There is a shortage of places in hospitals with a COVID-19 profile. Last week, the Municipal Clinical Hospital of Phthisiopneumology was activated for the admission of patients. There is an overlap of respiratory infections, COVID-19 and flu, so the forms of the disease are complicated and recovery is more difficult. Currently, filters have been installed in medical facilities. We urge the population to be responsible and get vaccinated against the coronavirus", said Boris Gîlca.
The deputy head of the General Directorate of Education, Youth and Sports, Andrei Pavaloi, said that last week, the attendance in educational institutions in the capital was 73 percent. "A number of 29 students and 15 teachers fell ill with COVID-19. We urge the administration of the educational institutions to comply with the sanitary rules", Pavaloi said.
Last week, 2,956 addresses were registered at the emergency reception units in the capital, after which 1,562 patients were admitted. People sought the help of doctors in cases of respiratory infections, pneumonia and bronchitis.
