Moldova's Ambassador to Romania says abrogation of decree on Russia's foreign policy does not cancel basic treaty

Chisinau, 22 February /MOLDPRES/ - The abrogation of the decree on Russia’s foreign policy from 2012, based on which Chisinau’s sovereignty on Transnistria’s issue was recognized, does not cancel the basic treaty, signed by Moldova and Russia in November 2001, Moldova’s Ambassador to Romania Victor Chirila told the AGERPRES news agency of Romania, quoted by MOLDPRES.   

Chirila noted that, under the article 1 of the concerned treaty, Russia committed to observe ‘’the inviolability of the borders, the territorial integrity, the political independence, the peaceful settlement of disputes, the non-interference with the domestic affairs.’’  

"Certainly, Moldova’s authorities took note of the decision to abrogate the decree on Russia’s foreign policy from 2012. We understand that the approval and publication of a new concept of Russia’s foreign policy comes next, which we will consider attentively in Chisinau. Moldova’s position on the Transnistrian settlement remains, nevertheless, the same, focused on the peaceful settlement of the conflict, by diplomatic and political means,’’ Chirila added.      

The diplomat stressed that Moldova would continue to ask Russia to observe its international commitments on the unconditional withdrawal of its troops, illegally deployed in Moldova.
