First-grade children from several schools to attend nutrition classes

Chisinau, March 1. /MOLDPRES/- Over 4,300 first-grade children from 88 educational institutions in the country will have nutrition classes. They will be carried out within the COSI study - the initiative of the World Health Organization on the surveillance of obesity in childhood.
According to ANSP, 12 teams of specialists of the National Agency for Public Health and USMF Nicolae Testemițanu will go to schools to assess the physical development of children and will evaluate the school food environment and family eating habits through questionnaires. They will also teach nutrition classes where children will have the opportunity to learn about the principles of balanced nutrition, physical activity and proper hydration.
Data collection in the COSI study - the World Health Organization's childhood obesity surveillance initiative - is underway. The study is carried out with the financial support of the European Union.
