EU supports justice reform in Moldova

Chisinau, 2 March /MOLDPRES/ - EU supports the reforms in Moldova, including the justice one and the vetting process. European Commissioner for Justice Didier Reynders today made statements to this effect at a news briefing held jointly with Justice Minister Veronica Mihailov-Moraru.
The justice minister said that she appreciated the openness and support of the commissioner in relation with Moldova’s position. ‘’For our country, the improvement of the justice sector has been and remains a major priority, which is of overwhelming importance for the entire society and represents an essential condition for the development of a democratic society. I assured the high commissioner of our confidence to promote this process of vetting in strict accordance with the recommendations of the Venice Commission,’’ Veronica Mihailov-Moraru noted.
The European official said that he appreciated the Moldovan authorities’ commitment for the steps of reformation of justice. Didier Reynders gave assurances that he would help in this process, including through expertise and technical assistance.
„The Commission’s recommendations must be fully implemented. We support this process of vetting; I welcome the implementation of the European Commission’s recommendations as to the reform of the Supreme Court of Justice (CSJ). The reforms are the most difficult. The Commission will back you,’’ Reynders added.
European Commissioner for Justice Didier Reynders, on an official visit to Chisinau, had a meeting with Prime Minister Dorin Recean. The officials discussed the strengthening of the rule of law state and the continuation of the reforms in the justice sector. He will also meet President Maia Sandu and representatives of the civil society’s organizations.
