Chisinau, 2 March /MOLDPRES/ - The financial resources meant for the construction of the Vulcanesti back-to-back station have been re-allocated for the building of a new interconnection with Romania through the overhead power line Balti-Suceava of 400 KV and extending the Balti station of 330 KV. A decision to this end was taken at a meeting of the inter-ministerial committee for strategic planning (CIPS) of the government.
According to the Energy Ministry, the construction of the 600 MW back-to-back station in Vulcanesti is no longer justified from the technical and economic viewpoint, after Moldova synchronized its system, along with Ukraine, to the one of the European Network of Transmission System Operators for Electricity (ENTSO-E).
„The multiple interconnection with Romania will allow us become a full-fledged part of ENTSO-E, without depending on Ukraine. This project is of strategic importance for Moldova and will enhance our degree of energy independence. The construction of a new power line was included in the investments plan of the continental energy system,’’ Energy Minister Victor Parlicov said.
The project implies the construction of an overhead power line with the nominal tension of 400 KV, with a length of 138 km, of which 90 km on the territory of Romania and 48 km – in Moldova, on the route Suceava (Romania) – Balti (Moldova). The investment’s cost amounts to about 40 million euros.
