Government facilitates transport of goods by rail on territory of Moldova and Ukraine

Chisinau, March 15. /MOLDPRES/- The government approved today the amended protocol of the Agreement between the Republic of Moldova and Ukraine on the activity of rail transport, following the conclusion of the Moldovan-Ukrainian negotiations on the rail transit of goods on the territory of the two countries, the government's communication and protocol department has reported.

The protocol provides for the elimination of double control operations, and in some sectors - triple control of customs and border management authorities. Thus, the procedures for the rail transit of goods on the territory of Ukraine, with the destination of the Republic of Moldova and Romania, and on the territory of the Republic of Moldova, with the destination of Ukraine and Romania, will be simplified, which will allow increasing the volume of goods transported by rail.

At the same time, the logistic chains will be modified, by redirecting the transport of goods from the road segment to the rail segment. As a result, the load on the national roads will be reduced, which will lead to an increase in the volumes of goods in transit on the territory of the Republic of Moldova and will have a positive impact on the national economy.

"The draft intervenes with changes regarding the elimination of the control of the customs and border authorities of Ukraine at the Reni station. This will allow reducing the transport time of goods from/to the Giurgiulesti port complex or Romania and will have a positive impact on the final cost of goods exported/imported by beneficiaries from the Republic of Moldova, reducing transport expenses", said Minister Lilia Dabija.
