Moldovan government to set measures, conditions for subsidizing agriculture

Chisinau, March 16. /MOLDPRES/- MPs today adopted a draft law on subsidies in agriculture and rural environment in first reading.

The document was worked out by the Ministry of Agriculture and Food Industry and aims to increase the competitiveness of the agro-industrial sector, ensure the rational management of natural resources and the socio-economic development of rural areas.

The project establishes the principles of the state subsidy policy in agriculture and the rural environment; the powers of the public administration authorities in the field of subsidies in agriculture and the rural environment; general subsidy forms and conditions; the particularities of the procedure for examining subsidy applications. The subsidy measures and conditions will be established by the Government. Farmers, natural or legal persons carrying out activity in the rural environment or in agriculture, other than farmers, administrative-territorial units, local action groups, organizations in the field of research and innovation, as well as educational institutions with an agro-industrial profile will be able to benefit from subsidies.

The main source of financing will be the national fund for the development of agriculture and the rural environment, the value of which for 2023 is 1.5 billion lei.
