Measures to be taken to improve irrigation systems, Moldovan deputy premier says

Chisinau, March 24 /MOLDPRES/- Deputy Prime Minister Vladimir Bolea, Minister of Agriculture and Food Industry announced yesterday during a visit to the irrigation system in Filipeni, Leova district, about several legislative amendments to optimize the activity of the sector due to be carried out by the government.

According to the official, the obligation to pay AUAI membership fees will be included for all farmers who carry out agricultural activities in the irrigation area.

The statements were made in the context of the problems reported by the local members of the Association of Water Users for Irrigation (AUAI). They said that the station operates at reduced capacity due to the lack of cooperation between the economic agents and non-respect of commitments assumed by the members.

The Filipeni irrigation station was rebuilt within the U.S. government's compact program in 2015. The investment cost was over six million dollars.
