Seventy EU acts in agro-food sector to be transposed in Moldova's legislation in 2023

Chisinau, 28 March /MOLDPRES/ - The Agriculture and Food Industry Ministry (MAIA) will transpose 70 acts of the European Union into the national legislation till the end of this year. Deputy Prime Minister, Agriculture and Food Industry Minister Vladimir Bolea has made statements to this effect at public hearings organized by the parliamentary commission for foreign policy and European integration.    

According to Bolea, a priority of the ministry is the harmonization of the legislation. Seventy EU regulations directives were identified for 2023 and 16 MAIA employees are involved in this process.   

‘’Besides those nine recommendations of the European Union, we want to make even more progress. Therefore, we want all ministries to be pro-active and stay focused on the achievement of the European integration goal,’’ the head of the parliament’s commission for foreign policy and European integration, Doina Gherman said.   

At the same time, Agriculture and Food Industry Minister Vladimir Bolea referred to the progress recorded in the process of implementing the EU legislation. For the first time ever, Moldova was listed for the export of processed fowl and consumption eggs to the European Union. Also, decision-makers transposed over 20 EU’s regulations and directives in the field of animals’ health and well-being, identification and traceability of animals, on the segment of veterinary medicines and of sub-products of animal origin, which are not meant for human consumption.    

On 4 March 2022, Moldova officially submitted an application on accession to the European Union. Subsequently, the European Council recognized Moldova’s European perspective and ruled to give the status of country candidate for accession to the European Union. In this context, the European Commission was invited to submit to the European Council a report on the fulfillment of the conditions stipulated in its notification from 17 June 2022, as part of the periodical enlargement package. The European Council will decide on the subsequent stages, once all conditions are fulfilled.
