Resolution on support of Moldova's integration into EU adopted in Chisinau

Chisinau, 28 March /MOLDPRES/ - A resolution on the support of Moldova’s integration into EU today was adopted at the ninth Meeting of the Joint Commission for European Integration between Moldova’s parliament and the parliament of Romania. The event took place in Chisinau.
According to the decision of the lawmakers who participated in the meeting, a Department for Moldova’s Integration into the European Union is to be soon set up. The department is to work under the subordination of Romania’s parliament and is to provide consultancy to Moldova’s parliament and other institutions from Chisinau, in order to speed up the pace of the domestic reforms needed for joining EU.
The commission put down in the resolution that the 2023 year was quite important for turning to good account the window of opportunity given to Moldova and the country’s strategic goal stays the getting of a unanimous decision of the European Union member states on the starting of negotiations on accession by the end of this year. The document stresses the importance to ensure Moldova’s access to the financial instruments of pre-accession to EU as soon as possible.
The Moldovan side of the Joint Commission welcomed the continuous political support of Romania and Brussels and the willingness to provide expertise on Moldova’s European integration. ‘’We appreciate the efforts made by Moldova at the governmental and parliamentary levels in the implementation of those nine recommendations of the European Commission. We stress that the fulfillment of these nine conditions will stay at the basis of the European Council’s decision on the future steps,’’ the resolution reads.
The co-head of the Joint Commission for European Integration between Moldova’s parliament and the parliament of Romania, MP Petru Frunze said the meeting of the commission took place in an important historical context, as the 105th anniversary of Bessarabia’s Union with Romania was marked on 27 March.
For his part, the co-head of the Joint Commission, Andrei Daniel Gheorghe, reiterated the unconditional support by Romania of Moldova’s European integration. ‘’For Romania, Moldova’s European integration is a priority of national strategy, a long-term strategy and a fundamental objective which, at the same time, leads to the stability, safety and well-being of the citizens. I am sure that the procedures on the negotiation of the accession chapters will start soon. Moldova proved that it is prepared to go this European road,’’ the Romanian lawmaker said.
The Joint Commission for European Integration between Moldova’s parliament and the parliament of Romania was set up in 2010. The commission is made of ten MPs from the Moldovan parliament and the Romanian one.
