Moldovan parliament speaker meets European Council president

Chisinau, 28 March /MOLDPRES/ - Parliament Speaker Igor Grosu today met European Council President Charles Michel. The discussion was focused on up-to-date subjects, among which the justice reform, security and energy sectors, as well as Moldova’s European integration, the parliament’s communication and public relations department has reported.
Parliament Speaker Igor Grosu referred to the justice reform and the latest events which took place in the system: ‘’A state will be functional only when we have a correct justice. We rely on the courageous and honest judges, who will de-block the situation.’’
During the discussion, the parliament speaker asked the European Union to align with the sanctions imposed by the United States and the United Kingdom as to the Moldovan oligarchs who fled the country and now, at distance, are involved in the destabilization of the constitutional order. ‘’Our competent institutions work, in order to prevent the destabilizations which these individuals try to trigger; yet, we need the strengthening of the institutions’ capacities,’’ Igor Grosu said.
Among other fields tackled at the meeting, there were those on strengthening the security sector and the energy one, enhancing the competitiveness and increasing the quota of export of agricultural products to the EU market, cutting the roaming tariffs in EU, legislation’s approximation.
In the context of the giving of the status of country candidate for accession, Speaker Igor Grosu noted that the parliament, government and presidency had joined their efforts to carry out those nine recommendations proposed by the European Commission. ‘’We rely, in continuation, on the political support of the EU member states in this country project,’’ the parliament speaker reiterated.
