State of emergency extended by another 60 days in Moldova

Chisinau, 30 March /MOLDPRES/ - The state of emergency has been extended by another 60 days in Moldova starting from 5 April 2023. The parliament adopted a decision to this end today.

Prime Minister Dorin Recean came up with a request on the prolongation of the emergency state. The parliament’s opposition criticized the request.  

„On 28 March, I summoned a meeting of the Commission for Emergency Situations (CSE) and along with all its members, we found out that the emergency state must be extended for a period of 60 days. And the government I lead approved the concerned decision on 29 March. Unfortunately, the deeply unjust and immoral war waged by Russia against Ukraine continues, with consequences which are felt in our country too. The prolongation of the state of emergency is absolutely necessary also because of the fact that we face, in continuation, elements of a hybrid war waged against Moldova – a war meant to prevent us from being a free country, integrated into the European Union. We are constantly subjected to hybrid attacks on behalf of the group for theft and war, which has a clear-cut mission – to bring destabilization to Moldova. Their goal is to organize chaos,’’ Recean noted.      

The PM also said that all state’s institutions would continue ensuring peace and calm in the society and to work for the country’s economic recovery.

“The government is the first institution interested in returning to normal and work in a normality regime,’’ Dorin Recean added.

The emergency state was established in Moldova on 24 February 2022, with the unleashing of the war in Ukraine.
