Departed Moldovan cinema man commemorated at 85th birthday anniversary

Chisinau, 3 April /MOLDPRES/ - A commemorative exhibition titled, The Legend of Film – Valeriu Gagiu, today was inaugurated at the Museum of History of the Chisinau City, at the 85th birth anniversary of the departed cinema man.
According to the director of the aforementioned museum, Valeria Suruceanu, the exhibition displays materials from the archive of the museum and the personal archive of film director Valeriu Gagiu. The event was organized by the host institution, in cooperation with the wife of the departed film director, member of the Union of Cinema Men of Moldova Zinaida Timofte.
The head of the Union of Cinema Men from Moldova, Virgiliu Margineanu, said that Valeriu Gagiu had been a very good film director and script writer who, besides the fact that he made films, he trained the young generation of cinema men.
Valeriu Gagiu was born on 1 May 1938. Gagiu started his creation work as poet and journalist. He graduated from the Faculty of Film Screenwriting of the All-Union State Institute of Cinematography from Moscow (VGIK – 1958-1963). In 1962, Gagiu became member of the Writers’ Union and of the Union of Cinema Men. Ever since the years spent at the Institute, he started cooperating with the Moldova-Film film studio. He directed and wrote the scripts of more movies. Valeriu Gagiu was awarded the Order of the Republic, National Prize of Moldova and the honorific title of People’s Artist.
Valeriu Gagiu passed away on 21 December 2010. .
The exhibition will be open till 15 April.
