Supreme Court of Justice to be reformed

Chisinau, April 6 /MOLDPRES/- The promulgation decree and the Law on the Supreme Court of Justice /CSJ/ were published in the Official Journal and entered into force.
The document was set up within a working group, created by the Ministry of Justice. It provides for the reorganization of the CSJ, including the review of powers.
Among the most important provisions of the document is the modification of the composition of the CSJ by ensuring access to judge positions for representatives of other legal professions, such as lawyers, prosecutors or university professors in the field of law.
After the entry into force of the law, legal assistants and other civil servants employed in the CSJ secretariat will be evaluated and, as the case may be, reconfirmed in the newly created positions within the CSJ after the reorganization, according to the Law No158/2008 on he public office and the status of the civil servant and the Labor Code No154/2003.
Also, the Superior Council of the Magistracy, within 5 days from the date of entry into force of this law, will announce a competition to fill the vacant positions of judge of the CSJ. The candidates' files will be submitted to the Superior Council of Magistracy within one month from the date of the announcement of the contest; within 15 days from the date of entry into force of this law, it will adopt the regulation regarding the selection of CSJ judges.
The Supreme Court of Justice, within 6 months from the entry into force of this law, will propose to the Superior Council of the Magistracy candidates for the position of president and, respectively, vice-president of the CSJ; within 8 months from the date of entry into force of this law, it will approve the CSJ regulations, the new organization chart and the staff, as well as appoint the jurisconsult and the general secretary of the CSJ.
On the date of entry into force of this law, Law No789/1996 on the Supreme Court of Justice (republished in the Official Journal of the Republic of Moldova, 2013, No15–17, art. 64), with subsequent amendments, is repealed.
